Citizen of the Oglala Lakota Nation

Founder of Sacred Way Sanctuary


Dr. Yvette Running Horse Collin is an enrolled member of the Lakota Oglala Nation (Oglala Sioux Tribe). For over two decades, she has worked with traditional knowledge-bearing Elders and studied Lakota science, environmental practices, and traditional medicine. From a Western studies perspective, she received a B.A. from Johns Hopkins University, an M.A. from New York University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She is working on her postdoctoral research in France.


Dr. Running Horse Collin is a Trustee of the Council of Elders Alliance for He'Sapa Unity. She is a wife, mother and grandmother and practices the traditional ways of her ancestors.


As part of her interview, Yvette will provide narrative correction regarding the horse in the Americas and introduce aspects of Lakota understanding regarding Sundwakan, the Horse Nation.
